Sorry to anyone who does watch me that I haven't submitted anything in ages!
I have been preoccupied with my two GCSEs that I am taking early, this year rather than next. I have done the first maths paper, and my french conversation, but I still have to do:
second maths paper
french listening, reading and writing
+ all my internal exams for every other subject.

I have still been online a lot, browsing art and watching people.(in a non stalker way) and have been thinking about the ways people do their art.
I have decided, that I personally do no want to recreate a photograph, I know that for it to be perfect a lot of skill is involved, but why would someone want to just copy a photograph, when you can try drawing from real life, capturing the expression and essence that a photograph never can.
I want my horses to look realistic, but I want the way I draw have an impact on the image. I want that drawing to have a piece of me in it, if that makes sense. I want people to be able to recognize my style in it.
Drawing from photographs is constructive to a point, but in the end you need to become independant of photographs. You need to develop your style, use you imagination, and learn the horse's confirmation.
Yes, each horse has individual confirmation, but if you learn the basics, that you can apply the characteristics of every horses build to that.
Photos are also good if you're not sure about a pose, how it should look, where the legs go, which muscles are in use and which are not, but some people just rely on the photograph to supply all the information for it.
The best animal portrait artists like to meet the animals they will eventually do paintings of. They interact with the animals, they take their own photos, they do quick sketches, and the end product will be a lot better than something copied from a photograph.
